It was our last day here on vacation and let me tell ya, it’s been a fantastic stay here in Old Orchard Beach in the good ol’ US of A. Today’s eats were not all together good, but what WAS great was the Fage yogurt that I had for breakfast! This stop on my “yogurt tour of America” was by far the best! :-) It was the thickest and creamiest. ![]()
It keeps the fruit preserves separately and you can either mix it in or ice it on top. I enjoyed it along side some Kashi Black Current & Walnut cereal, fresh blueberries, half of a banana with natural peanut butter and some sliced natural almonds:![]()

It was definitely my favourite and I’m glad that during my crazed yogurt shopping experience at Whole Foods, I managed to grab a big container of plain Fage to take home. Although the big container I bought was 0% and this one was 2% so we shall see how much of a difference it makes!
I then stepped out of our room (while hubby was still asleep of course) and went down the stairs to the canteen on the beach. I left my camera in our room, but I grabbed a coffee and did a nice walk along the beach barefoot along the shore all the way to the Pier and back. By the time I got back I was well awake. It was wonderful.
We went to the Captain’s Galley again for lunch and I enjoyed the lobster roll and fries. I lucked out with the lobster because the cook included a tail and at least one claw..wooot! It was a great lobster roll. Nothing to fancy it up which is how I like it. I can’t stand it when they start adding celery and other unnecessary things to a lobster roll.
The diet coke was perfect. I’ve been drinking ALOT of diet coke this week! Time to get off that wagon when I get home.![]()

For some reason, this pickle was perfect with the meal. Loved it.
Hubby had the hot turkey sandwich and I tried a bite. I was just about to take the picture and here he is shoveling on another forkfull of turkey!
Then hubby and I hit up the tennis courts AGAIN! (Yayy us!) I vowed to beat him this time (nothing new there!), but alas he is still undefeated! BUGGER! I AM getting better though and quite noticeably so. :-D We were neck in neck for a lot of the match and it was a lot of fun!![]()
After that I decided to snack on one of these So Delicious coconut milk yogurts. Not.a.fan.at.all. I was really surprised because I absolutely adore the coconut milk ice creams. Maybe it was the pina colada flavour, hard to say. But I do have two other of these flavours to take home, so I’ll be sure to compare!
We decided to take it easy for the rest of the afternoon and just rest. We are both so tired and sore from a very full (and active) week. Later on we hit up Portland again for some last chance shopping and our last supper out. Because I loved the salad so much at Ruby Tuesday we went there again :-)
I definitely hit up the salad bar like a champ! One thing is for sure whether it’s a salad “buffet” or any other style of buffet, I don’t know how to not to load up my plate!
I’m not even going to list the things in this salad because there are so many! Some wonderful and healthy, other’s not as much ;-)
My main wasn’t healthy, but I was banking on the “mini” factor:
Turns out they weren’t as “mini” as I had imagined:
They were “okay.” I never touched the fries.
Then hubby points out how “good” we were this week and never even ordered dessert once and since it was our last night of vacation, he convinced me to indulge. I was already stuffed to the brim, but it wasn’t like he had to twist my arm too far!
I literally had to unbutton my pants “thanksgiving” style when we got to the car! lol I was mostly an ice cream eater of this spread though, I found the cake reeeeeally sweet.
So all in all, the husband and I have had an absolutely fantastic week! We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our trip. We planned our trip to Old Orchard Beach to begin the day that the rates dropped for the off season which had it’s pros and cons.
Pros:
- Rooms that would normally be $180/night during peek season are now $75.
- Less crowded/ congestion
- Better traffic
- Better shopping! Hello SALES!
Cons:
- The weather is cooler, so even though it was a beautiful week weather-wise, the breeze was quite cool, so not the “hot” beach weather you normally enjoy. (This is a “pro” for hubby)
- Some activities have ceased (ie the weekly fireworks and carnival is over)
We stayed at the Normandie Motor Inn. The one thing we have noticed about Old Orchard Beach is that many of the accommodations are definitely not “high end” but the rates are par with higher end hotels if you were staying in any given city. Obviously the draw is the beach. It seems like the cottages and hotels are doing well enough and selling out during peek season that they don’t feel the need to update the accommodations. Our room was very dated, but clean and fit for its purpose. Although, I think I would have been disappointed to have to pay $185 for the size and comfort level that it brought.
As we drove around we noticed that there were some extremely small cottages that were being rented out. They were no bigger than the size of a shed! This was one of the nicer looking teeny shed style cottages, but could you imaging paying a high price to stay here?
Seriously though, as much as we know that we will come back to Old Orchard Beach, I just wouldn’t pay that kind of money to sleep in a shed. Now I have no idea what the rate would be on this particular “cottage” but STILL!
Just sayin’!

You would DIE to hear how much I paid for some places in Europe! But at least I never slept in a shed! LOL
You totally rocked this vacation girl!
Let me know if you are free sometime later in the week for coffee. Miss ya!
Your vacay sounded super fun! Way to go on the eating AND choosing to go at the beginning of off season. I totally need to hit up the states for some of their yummy food. Not fair that we don't get it all :(
