Well here I am! I made it to Old Orchard Beach! The sun is shining brightly and I couldn’t be happier. Hubs and I got an early start on the day and hit the road at about 5:45 a.m. It was actually earlier than we had planned because Teddy (my Dad’s “elderly” dog, formerly my dog as a teenager – I love you Dad!) came in our room and started making all sorts of noise and woke us up. We both felt pretty awake by then and thought we’d better get on the go! Has that ever happened to you when you wake up with like an hour left to sleep, you feel fine, but go back to sleep and then you wake up later feeling waaaaaay worse than if you had of just gotten up when you woke up??
It was still dark outside and I was extremely surprised that my tummy started to rumble at that early hour. We stayed at my Dad’s the night before and he doesn’t have a coffee pot (pure Tim Horton’s frequenter), so we ran through the Tim Horton’s drive-thru where I indulged in a large double double which I seem to only have when I travel for some reason! And I did in fact also have the most delicious sausage breakfast sandwich. Dang those things are GOOOOOD! I didn’t photograph either and none of yas need to see that anyways :-)
Car snacks weren’t as bad. They included a delicious apple:
as well as some of a nibbler pack of grapes, cheese and pepperoni:
I had other healthy snacks packed (raspberries, blueberries, Larabars, cosmic cookie, veggie & cheese plate, kashi bars, skinny sticks etc.), but those will get eaten likely tomorrow. Hail to the kitchenette!
We stopped at the duty free shop just before crossing the border into the U.S. and OMG booz was cheeeeeeeap!
I bought this bottle of Starbucks coffee liqueur (who knew such a thing existed?) for only $24.99:
But I figured it would be the perfect “vacation” booze treat for me to sip on with ice and/or in coffee! Hubby bought this 26 oz of Appleton Rum for only $14.99!
And I couldn’t help myself from buying this cute silver necklace for only $15.99:
I’m patriotic at heart ;-)
Oh and I was sad when we reached the border because it meant we were going to be switching cell service providers and hubby made me turn off my mobile network settings to avoid getting charged $59384834 for data usage on my blackberry. Up until that point I was having fun keeping myself occupied tweeting our road trip and teezing the husband.
And if any of you are familiar with pizza from New Glasgow, you’ll understand why we had Acropole Pizza for lunch on the road:
It may not look great, but it’s the BEST! Sorry guys, but that’s just the way it is!!
We decided we’d stop in Bangor for a break and some “real” food and the last time we were there, we went to Chilis and hubby loved it, so that’s where we went.
I had eaten the piece of pizza only about 2 hours before and I have been seriously craving salad lately, but to be honest, there didn’t seem to be many on the menu that were too calorie friendly. So instead, the husband and I decided to split this deal:
You picked three items for $9.99. We picked:
It was tasty, but honestly, it’s only day 1 of vacay and I’m already DONE with crap food! I can’t wait to get settled in and be prepared with at least 2 out of 3 meals being healthy that make you feel healthy.
The seller of this deal was the size of them! They were itty bitty guys = perfect pour moi!
I thoroughly enjoyed a diet pepsi though:
Next stop was Old Orchard Beach! I couldn’t wait to arrive to smell the ocean and hear the waves. I hate to admit this, but this was the first time I have made it to any beach this summer!!!! *GASP*!!! I KNOW!! I practically have salt water running through my veins and the summer didn’t unfold that way for me this year :-( Lots of other wonderful things kept me busy though ;-)
Pure.Bliss.
No sooner did Hubs and I arrive at 3:30 local time did I head straight for the shore! We don’t have far to go from our room at all!
Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!! So excited we’re here and the weather is beautiful!
Annnndddddd,,,free Wi Fi! You’ll be hearing lots from me!!
