Eating Local – Breakfast & Lunch

As you all know I pledged to Eat Atlantic today which means that I pledged only to eat foods that were produced in Atlantic Canada. I liked this challenge because it brings awareness to people about where their food actually comes from. What I didn’t like was the list of foods that the website provided as "great Atlantic food ideas" for foods to eat locally. There was no mention of many, many local foods that are not processed! I would not eat any of the meats mentioned on that list. No thanks!

I have to admit, I had been so busy this week that I hadn’t thought out what I’d have for breakfast! One thing did not change was my favourite coffee from Just Us (Mexican Morning) with Farmer’s blend cream. I switch back and forth between Scotsburn blend cream and the Farmer’s regularly.

But it’s local:

I wanted to make a couple of egg whites so badly, but NOPE not local! All I had on hand that was local and to go on toast was this farm fresh homemade strawberry jam that FarmGirl made from fresh berries from her family farm, Websters Farm:

It was sooooo sweet! I’m used to having PB with it, but nope, not local, so I couldn’t! I was convinced that I was going to die before lunch not having had any protein :-P

IMG_4856 Turns out I lived just fine ;-) I did snag a peach to tide me over to lunch:

Then I met FarmGirl and Jaime for lunch at The Wooden Monkey. I have been dying to try this place because for one, the menu looks so delicious and secondly, ALL of the food is made from local sources!! *ding ding ding*! Perfect cop out excuse for eat local day if you ask me!

IMG_4859 The menu looked soooo goood! I settled on:

It was a beautiful and hot Friday longweekend afternoon, so I decided to go for a nice glass of lemonade too:

Looks like they were filming a movie of some sort downtown:

I wanted to do this challenge so badly! I just moved this past week though. Finding any type of food this week has been hard enough, let alone atlantic stuff! I didn't know Ben's was local actually...

Sounds like a great start to the day! Homemade jam and a crazy delicious looking sandwich :)
