Day 4 – All About “The Husband” Vacay Day

I woke up much more rested this morning on our 4th day of vacation than I did yesterday. I had no problem getting up and lacing up my sneaks for a nice long walk on the beach. My foot is still excruciating, so there was no running pour moi :-( BUT the beautiful walk during the early hours of the morning was WELL worth it on so many levels!

Before heading out on my walk, I fixed myself up a Strawberry Chobani topped with some Kashi Black Currant cereal, some salad fixin’s trail mix and a half of a banana sammiched with a schmear of natural peanut butter:

I grabbed a hazelnut flavoured iced coffee from the canteen on IMG_5363the beach right at our hotel and it was just the ticket for my morning joe:

It was time to get a shower and get ready for the day. As much as I wanted to hang around and just veg on the beach, today was a day devoted more to the husband. We had originally planned to play 18 holes of golf, but then he stumbled across the fact that there was a sporting clays at L.L. Bean in Freeport and I have to say I have rarely seen him that excited about anything! He grew up with the sport and while there is a gun club where we live, he finds it hard to find people to go with him etc. He is a pretty good shot, but since he hadn’t shot in 2 years, he had no idea how well he’d do. This of course meant that we’d have to spend the day in Freeport and being the good little wifey I am, I was glad to sacrifice the beach time to see him in his glory :-)

First we ran to the Maine Mall where I returned some items at Williams Sonoma that I had changed my mind about and then we went to lunch at Ruby Tuesday

IMG_5378

I had never been there before or even remember hearing of it before. Boy was I EVER glad we went there! It was PERFECT!!! They have the most AMAZING salad bar that was only $2.99 with my meal!!!!!

IMG_5394

My salad consisted of:

IMG_5387

  • mixed greens & baby spinach
  • carrots
  • beets
  • garbanzo beans
  • shelled edamame
  • red onion
  • cherry tomatoes
  • cottage cheese
  • cheddar cheese
  • dried cranberries
  • sunflower seeds
  • grapes
  • broccoli salad
  • rye croutons
  • balsamic vinaigrette

It plain and simple ROCKED and had I known that the salad bar rocked this much I wouldn’t have ordered such a big main for my lunch.

IMG_5389

BUT, I had NEVER tried bison before and was excited to give it a try. Behold the bison burger:

IMG_5390

IMG_5392

It was HUGE, juicy and delicious. I ate every bite of the burger and I left these alone:

Off to Freeport we went and were L.L. Bean bound. I had always heard of the “24 hour L.L. Bean store” but I had no idea it was like a “campus” and that there were like 15 different buildings to it!

IMG_5408IMG_5401 IMG_5404 IMG_5415 IMG_5421 IMG_5409

IMG_5411

:-D

After a little exploring in the store(s), we were off to the shooting range

IMG_5446 IMG_5456 IMG_5451 IMG_5448IMG_5463

Hubby joined in with the rest of the “squad” and shot a few rounds.

I watched from the car and well, as fun as it was to see hubby in his glory, I may have gotten a little bored:

IMG_5507IMG_5511

IMG_5510 IMG_5512

IMG_5447BUT I was SUPER proud of my man because he ended up with the highest score of the afternoon and was only 1 shy of making this board. He had 24/25. Not bad for not shooting in 2 years, eh! Woooot!

One of the older men there even came up to me while he was shooting to compliment how good of a shot he was :-)

That’s my man!

While I was waiting I got a little hungry again (somehow) and I finally tried the other new flavour of Larabar, “German Chocolate Cake:

IMG_5457

It was tasty and that’s no surprise to me :-)

Then we roamed Freeport for a bit (what a beautiful little town!) I was so surprised that all of the stores on the main street were all kept to preserve the look of the town. Not your average Starbucks or Banana Republic:

IMG_5522 IMG_5527

Speaking of Starbucks, another grande SF hazelnut iced americano was in order. And hubby had worked up an appetite and I had a bite of his cookie

IMG_5521 IMG_5520

And after a little more shopping, we were off to find a place to have supper. Since today was “hubby’s day” he chose to try Famous Dave’s

IMG_5530 IMG_5541

It wasn’t my kind of place because there were few, if any, healthy selections on the menu that were at all appealing. This is where you might want to close your eyes and just scroll to the bottom :-PIMG_5546

I ordered a glass of Reisling which ended up being wayyy too sweet, so I only sipped on about half:

We ordered the sampler platter for an appetizer which was the absolute epitome of a heart attack on a plate:

IMG_5555

I had a few of the catfish sticks, chicken tender, wing & rib and I was feeling pretty full already by this point.

I ended up with the

IMG_5544

and I chose the mashed sweet potatoes and macaroni & cheese as the two sides:

IMG_5543

TONS-‘O'-FOOD:

And here’s where I ended up eating too much and ruined my “intuitive eating” vacation streak.

I didn’t eat it all and left this on my plate, but even still, I ate too much and felt pooopy:

IMG_5560

Tomorrow is our last day in Old Orchard Beach and the weather is now saying “cloudy” which is better than the rain that was forecasted earlier in the week. We plan on sticking close by and playing some more tennis (to fend off some of the heart attack invaders that are no doubt attacking us from the inside as we speak!) And maybe, just maybe I’ll get in some more beach time, but if it’s cloudy, the breeze might be too cold, so we shall see.

These marathon posts are starting to kill me! It’s nice to have these vacay recaps to look back on though :-)

Tomorrow = healthy city and hubby butt kickin’ in tennis :-)

‘night bloggies!

Just reading your OOB posts has given me sooo many ideas for our New England trip. I've been wanting to do it for a while (tour NE) and hubby & got talking and thinking next Fall. :)

Sounds like you're having a blast, if it were me I wouldn't want to come home. LOL!

Looks like your having a blast, which is hard not to do in Old Orchard Beach!

ISn't Ruby Tuesday's salad bar awesome? I spent a year living in ths US and so miss the salad bar. The other great part of that restaurant -- they include nutritional information in their menu!

Ha ha! You're so cute! Love the pic of you in the fish tank. :o)

That BBQ place looks like the kinda place I'd have to try at least once. Kind of a "just pretend it didn't happen" kind of place.

What happened to your foot?

Angie: awww thanks so much for your sweet comment. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment :)

CJ: Freeport is a pretty place and they just opened an outlet mini mall tucked away in behind downtown and it doesn't stick out, so THAT doesn't even take over the look either!

Lynn & Jaime: you guys should DEFINITELY go. It's our second time down around this area and we're definitely coming back!

Mon: We're definitely coming back to OOB! We arrived just as the prices dropped for the off season which was a huge financial bonus! Our Ruby Tuesday menu didn't have NI!

Lainey: My left foot has given me problems ever since our accident when it broke in a few places. I have a set or custom orthotics, but I didn't have a "summer" pair that were suitable for summer shoes, so it totally messed up my foot again and is causing the Achilles tendon to become inflamed like a mo fo :-( And Nope I never want to remember that meal at Famous Daves ever again! lol

Ho-lee! Those portion sizes are surreal. I know you felt like you ate too much but can you imagine finishing all of that! I think you did great on your vacation. And you will beat hubby at tennis one day! :)
