Day 3: The Vacay Intuitive Eating Edition

Hey bloggies!  Another full day of vacay activity is under our belt and let me tell yas, I’m pooped!  What a fabulous day we had today though.  I was feeling in need of a longer sleep this morning (most likely due to the super early mornings yesterday and the day before), so no glamorous runs on the beach today!  After I woke up though, I could hardly wait to try out one of the infamous Chobani yogurts that I’ve read so much about on the American food blogs.  This morning I decided to roll with the fact that I still have some Nova Scotia blueberries from our road trip and chose the blueberry Chobani:

I topped the yogurt with:

Kashi Black Currants & Walnuts cereal, Aurora Salad fixin’s and some sliced almonds:

It was sooooo flavourful and good!

A little while later, after hubby got up and we got ready for the day, it was time for him to have breakfast and truth be told I was hungry again!  It was nearing 11:00, so I decided that I would fuel up for our big tennis match that we had planned and load up on protein.

We went to:

IMG_5257

and I ordered:

Eggs were poached and ham with wheat toast:

IMG_5258

and a side of bacon:

IMG_5259

And I have to toot my own horn here because so far on this trip I have never once eaten myself to an uncomfortable placeI’ve had lots of treats, but all to a point of being satisfied and never more than that.  I left all of this on my plate:

IMG_5261

And TWO cups of coffee with half & half.  Oh how I love a coffee in the morning :-)

IMG_5256

Next up was my re-match against hubby at the tennis court.  I swore to him that I was going to win this time around.

We played the first match and he beat me both sets.  Booooo.  We decided to play a second set and all of a sudden I channeled a little Venus & Serena and I totally held my own and we ended up tying the first set.  Then he played some Jedi mind tricks on me, threw me all off my game and he won the tie breaker!  BUGGER!  He is not a good loser at all!  By that point it was 2 hours of straight play and I was not only tired, but my foot was aching so badly.  I have been having major foot issues lately and it’s not good!

Plus I was getting hungry, so hubs and I split a Peanut Butter & Jelly Larabar

IMG_5265

By the way, there’s a reason why this label is on the bar

IMG_5267

Hubby chomped down on a shell of some sort.

IMG_5264I was pretty stiff after taking the break (and so was hubs), so we decided to throw in the towel for the day.  I was pretty pleased with myself for making him actually work for that last win.  I’m getting better!  We had soo much fun playing!  Lots of laughs and lots of calories burned.  To the tune of about 600 :-)

By the time we got back to our room, I was super hungry and just couldn’t wait to whip up a delicious and healthy salad from the fixin’s I bought at Whole Foods!  Woot!  I hadn’t stopped thinking about it since our visit to the store!  How pathetic rehabilitated is it that I dream about salad now rather than Big Macs?!

Who says you can’t eat healthy foods while on vacation on the road?!  The magic word = kitchenette!

The mix:

IMG_5271 IMG_5270

plus: some cubes of cheddar cheese, grapes, avocado, fresh lime juice, Maine honey (bought a smidge in bulk just for the salad):

IMG_5277

You guys, it was THE BEST!  I enjoyed every single bite!  Lately I can’t get enough yummy salads!

IMG_5279

Then hubby and I hit the road to The Kittery Premium Outlets IMG_5282where hubby put his “best husband in the world” hat on and it was like “Driving Miss Angie” around from store to store while I browsed and shopped!  What a little angel he was!  He was so patient and sweet driving me around to the IMG_5281different parking lots and making sure that I didn’t have to walk too far because of my killer foot (I just typed food ;-P)

And boy am I ever glad because I just may have gone over my planned budget and he didn’t even give me that “look of death” that he would normally give me (I love you darlin’! MWAH)

I HAD to get me a Grande Iced Americano with SF Hazelnut syrup  & half & half to tide me over to supper.

Oh and SPEAKING OF SUPPER we were just around the corner to Portsmouth, so…….we hit up my favourite:IMG_5285

I had only ever been there twice and both times was two years ago when we went to New Hampshire and I got my wedding dress.  I heart The Olive Garden!

They have the BEST wine!  I enjoyed a glass of their blush:

Salad & a Breadstick

We split an appetizer

where I ate all the stuffed mushrooms..mmmmm…

IMG_5308

And I ordered the

IMG_5290 IMG_5311

which was AWESOME

IMG_5312 IMG_5313

and what was even BETTER was how much I left on my plate because I was “satisfied”:

IMG_5316

And no dessert was required because of these tasty little guys:IMG_5317

And we left the restaurant having had an amazing day together all in all an it was time to head back to the hotel.  And that’s where things kind of took a “wrong turn.”  It was late by then (like 9:30 p.m.) and we were just about to make the 50 min drive back to Old Orchard Beach when the husband realized that we should get some more gas. We drive a diesel and well, it turned out that we had the hardest time finding a diesel gas station and our GPS kept taking us to these old creepy vacant roads where no gas station existed!  Every time we’d try to turn around we’d end up back on some highway heading for Boston or some such!

Every station we found didn’t have diesel!  And I asked one gas attendant lady where we could find diesel and she gave me this SOL look on her face and rambled off lingo that only locals would understand and was not very helpful at all.  I tried to get her to clarify what she had said and she was only interested in changing her garbage cans.  What a !*$#!  Honestly!  Finally we found our way (somehow!) to where she had vaguely explained on the million highways that there is (in the DARK) and filled up!  Pheeeeeew!  Somewhere during that time my perfect “Driving Miss Angie” husband hat turned into “stressed out lost and going to run out of gas” husband and let me tell you, it was a tense situation!  I kept picturing us running out of gas on one of those old creepy roads that the GPS was telling us to go to and so was he!

Not to mention, he had the voice on the GPS to be “Yoda” and it said everything backwards.

If I had of heard “Left, you must turn,” “On the motorway, you must join” one more time! lol

All in all though, we got home safe and sound and no worse for wear and had an absolutely fabulous day, although there was no beach involved which I was sad about.  We’re both stiff from all of the on-the-go activity and tennis playing and it feels great :-)  So far I am feeling great about my balance of activity and vacation indulgences an listening to my body :-)

Love the Yoda voice on the GPS...much better than the annoying chick voice!

You are so amazing. I hope that I can get to the "satisfied" point someday.

I'm worried about your foot! I'm glad it's not hindering your vacation, but I hope it starts to feel better soon and it is nothing too serious.

ooooh, that does sound scary, creepy and super annoying!! Nothing worse than being lost!! Glad it finally all worked out. (I would HATE that yoda thing btw.)

Your eats look fan-freaking-tastic. Keep it up girlie!!!

I can imagine it was a stressful situation, glad you didn't end up stranded on a dark and creepy road...

Oh the Olive Garden. I am so jealous. If only food in Italy had taste to goo - Italian-American is so much tastier than Italian!

I am so proud of you for leaving food on you plate! Great job!

He got all sorts of other voices for it too (Homer Simpson, Darth Vader, George Bush, Buffy, Queen of England, James Bond...). I just may have to get him to change it for the drive home!

H-woman: that's the best tea combo ever! Glad you liked it!

Kim: thanks so much! :-) Trust me this side of me has emerged only recently and completely caught me by surprise! I hope it lasts!

Tamara: Awww girl, that's awesome! I'm excited that I inspire your eats! :-) The foot seems to be getting worse :-( But I do have some more custom orthotics ordered for summer shoes which hopefully will help :-/

I love Chobani!! Try the pineapple one if you get the chance. It's THE best. Or so I think. Yum!! I think everyone in Connecticut goes to my grocery store and buys it because these week I was only able to buy 2 of them. Boo.

I want to learn how to play tennis.

I told my hubby about your GPS and he thinks it's hilarious! I hope ours doesn't have it because we leave next week for our trip and I don't want to hear that Yoda voice.

Sounds like fun-minus your diesel problem.

Haha I keep catching myself saying (outloud) "wait thats my Olive Garden!" I am such a dork!

I can't believe there's a Yoda GPS voice. Or all the other ones you mentioned, either. WTH??? lol

You don't have an Olive Garden in Halifax? Blasphemy! I keep saying we need another one here in Calgary. Our one is always so insanely busy that it's hard to get in.
