Day 2 – The Vacay Exercise Rockstar & Whole Roods Junkie Edition

If there was ever a time where I would spring out of bed earrrrrly in the morning to exercise it was today.  I had to seize the moment this morning and as soon as I could see the daylight through the window, I sprung up out of bed.  I mean, doesn’t the idea of going for a run on the beach at sunrise sound like the ultimate enticement to get up?!  This was most definitely a first for me.  My foot has been paining me like a mo fo for weeks now but I didn’t care I had to go!  I haven’t even exercised in, well, weeks, so all signs pointed to DO IT!

It was sooooo refreshing at that hour.  There were a few people out walking along the beach, but not many. IMG_5084 IMG_5088 I ran and walked about half and half for a total of 1 hour and since it was fairly light intensity, I burned about 350 cals.  Greeeeat way to start the day!

I also came across this awesome sand castle that had survived the night’s incoming and outgoing tide:

IMG_5092 IMG_5085 The birds were so peaceful to watch too.  Loved every second.

I hadn’t eaten anything beforehand and by the time I got back, I had no problem gobbling up a post-run Peanut Butter Cookie Larabar and shortly after that, a homemade cosmic cookie (last one):

After hubby woke up about an hour later, we went down the street for real breakfast.  We happened across a “buffet” which I thought would be fun because I could pick and choose whatever.

I started with some fruit (which I only ate half), then I got an assortment of ham, scrambled eggs, tomato  pancake (I only ate half of one pancake, a few bites of eggs and most of the ham (not the best quality of food I have to say):

IMG_5100 IMG_5103

Although I did enjoy some baked beans and (of course), some much anticipated cup ‘o joe:

IMG_5102 IMG_5104

Next up was TENNIS!  The husband and I hit up the tennis courts and tore up the courts!  Okay so he beat me AGAIN, but in my defence, my foot was excruciatingly sore and I was anxious to hurry it up so that I could get to the beeeeeach! (Tomorrow I’m going to WIN!)

IMG_5113 IMG_5115

After about 1 hour and 20 mins of that and a super fun 600 calories burned, I had the best lunch.  It was a combination of lobster, scallops, shrimp & haddock with a special “captain’s stuffing” (sooo goood!) with a side of steamed broccoli & a roll:

IMG_5132

And I was feeling all “well balanced food groupie” and added some Stoneyfield raspberry yogurt + fresh raspberries (important from NS a la moi!):

IMG_5136 IMG_5129

Thennnnn it was beach time!!!!  Hubby wasn’t really interested in vegging at the beach with me (don’t ask me, he’s a little nuts!), but I didn’t mind spending a little quality time with moi and my new read:

IMG_5137

Later in the afternoon I got hungry and ended up having the most perfect snack!  It was a few melba toasts, cheddar cheese, grapes, blueberries and some diet coke:

IMG_5149

Hubby had come back from his own little exploring while I was chilling at the beach and he looked as though he had hit the motherload of all special vacation treats!  He just had to take me there to show me his heaven:

IMG_5156  I have to admit, even though I had zero interest in this sport outfitting store, he was in his bliss and I just adored watching him be so happy browsing about the store.  It sort of felt like a museum with all of the stuffed animals and this giant fish tank:

IMG_5168

After that we hit up the Maine Mall where I had scoped out the fact that there was a Williams Sonoma there.  I knew that I wanted to buy a bottle of their aged balsamic vinegar and pure vanilla extract, but I’m tellin’ yas I came out with more than that!  I’ll just leave it at that! ;-)

Hubs and I were feeling a little “deserving” of a cold treat given our activity of the day, so we treated ourselves to some TCBY.  He got a strawberry sherbet and I got the white chocolate frozen yogurt with oreo topping.  Can you believe that these are a small serving?? They were both the same size until he rolled the fro yo in oreo topping.  We shared both and only ate half of each!

IMG_5210While hubby was out and about as I relaxed on the beach, he had already scoped out where he wanted to go for dinner:

IMG_5214

The waitress talked me into:

IMG_5217 IMG_5224 IMG_5230 IMG_5233  It was reeeeally good!  I could have done with less blue cheese, but still it was delish!

Then it was my turn while I went to my heaven :-)

IMG_5235

OH.MY.GOD!  I just couldn’t believe the extent of ORGANIC foods that were all sooooo reasonably priced!!!  This store takes ALL of the work out of it!  There’s no hunting around from store to store trying to find the products you like.  It’s ALL right there.  (I even bought organic Heintz ketchup!) I seriously feel SAD about it because we don’t have nearly as grand of a selection (or at as good of a price) in Nova Scotia.  If I had this readily available to me in Halifax at the same relative prices, there is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t even think twice about eating all organic foods.  No question. Hands Down.  I do it 90% of the time now, but I make major $$ sacrifices to do it.

Okay, just for fun, look at how many different kinds of hummus there was:

IMG_5237 And bulk nut butters:

 IMG_5238

I knew that my main mission was to stock up on greek yogurts and I think I may have gone a little overboard:

Um, yeah.  Be prepared to see a lot of Greek Yogurt around here for a while! ;-)

IMG_5240

Oh and the individually packed nut butters…

IMG_5245

AND THE LARABARS…

IMG_5242

*sigh* if only I knew of some Halibloggers who could help take some of these off my hands ;-)

And yes those are the new flavours ;-)

Holy Moly Ang. You struck it Organtically Rich at the Whole
Foods Supermarket. It sounds as though your in "dream world". I am more and more impressed with you each blog I read. (How is that possible?) I didn't think I could be anymore impressed. Your so wonderfully enthusiastic about life. I LOVE IT.
I am going to start my blogging again and try to get myself back into shape again. I put at least 10-12 pound on since March.:(

Oh Whole Foods. Sigh. There's one about a 7-minute walk from my work, and my co-workers laugh because I just go at lunch and roam the aisles happily. :D Our downtown Toronto version isn't quite so stocked, though - and very expensive! Still, Whole Foods. Ahhhh...

Awwww, your day looks freaking fantastic!! Good job on the gorgeous morning run!

That's an awesome haul from WF. It's great to hear that it's more reasonably priced down there, although it's kind of a burn knowing they jack the prices up here. Bugger.

So, what gadget do you have that tells you how many calories you burn? Or are you estimating? Just curious... if you have a gadget, where did you get it and how much was it? Spill!

Food Coma: I LOVE this place!

Maria: We visited the one in TO while we were there and it was awesome! Although it was nothing compared to this one. WOW.

Kim: I use a Polar F6 Heart Rate Monitor. It monitors your heart rate and tells you how many calories you have burned based on your weight, height, age etc. It's really accurate and I love it. I wish I had one all along!

So far I haven't actually gotten very far in Twilight, but so far I'm finding it a pretty easy read which I like!
