Hemp Holla & Happy Birthday Hubby!

I finally got my hands on some hulled hemp seeds and put them to the test sprinkled atop a bowl of Kashi Honey Almond Flax, banana, raspberries and skim milk:

I purposely went for regular skim milk over unsweetened vanilla almond breeze purely because I kind of missed it! Almond milk is the only non-dairy alternative that ever caught on with me. I could never really stand soy milk. I still love almond milk but this time wanted the extra protein from the real milk.

And I sprinkled it all with hulled hemp seeds:

Not bad at all!

Are you guys aware that:

  • hemp seed contains all 20 known amino acids including the 9 essential amino acids (EAAs) our bodies cannot produce
  • Hemp protein is free of the tryspin inhibitors which block protein absorption and free of oligosaccharides found in soy, which cause stomach upset and gas
  • Approximately 65% of the protein in hemp seeds is made up of the globulin protein Edestin and is found only in hemp seed. Edestin aids digestion, is relatively phosphorus-free and considered the backbone of the cell's DNA. The other one third of hemp seed protein is Albumin, another high quality globulin protein similar to that found in egg whites

Benefits of consuming Hemp Seed & Oil

  • Excellent source of essential fatty acids including Omega 3, 6 and GLA
  • Lower blood LDL cholesterol levels
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve cardiovascular circulation & function
  • Improve organ function
  • Improve immunity levels
  • Increased energy levels & metabolic rate
  • Reduce symptoms of PMS & menstrual cramps
  • Reduce inflammation and the symptoms of arthritis
  • Improve recovery of muscles after exercise
  • Reduce & treat dry skin and hair conditions
  • Reduction of many degenerative diseases through preventative measures
  • Hemp products are GMO-Free, Gluten-free, Herbicide & Pesticide free, peanut free, Vegetarian approved, Kosher certified, No THC and Tryspin inhibitor free
  • Hemp products have a wonderful nutty flavor that can easily be incorporated into your diet while providing a powerful daily supplement.

Of course it’s not cheap! I bought about 2 1/2c of it and it was $15 at the bulk barn. But I think with a rap sheet like this, I don’t mind buying it since I’m a little goes a long way.

So now that that's out of the way, time to get my butt in gear to finish baking hubby's birthday cake! It's hubby's 30th birthday today and since it's a new house and it's a long weekend, we thought we practically HAD to have a little part-ayy of sorts tonight. Nothing huge, a few friends, some eats and drinks!

And the part I'm pretty excited about is that the generous folks at Epicure Selections have sent me an amazing package of products that I am incredibly anxious to test out, so tonight our guests will be taste testers of some yummy dips as well!

Thank you Epicure, I was truly impressed at your generosity! (Pssssssst....there may be a giveaway(s) to come!)

Happy Birthday Hubby!!!!!!!!! MWAH!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...Epicure ROCKS!!! Of course, I do sell the stuff! :)
BUT, it's also mostly salt/sugar free (or as little as possible needed for flavour), all natural, no MSG, no preservatives, no "fillers" and it's CANADIAN.
Enjoy!

I love, love, love hemp seeds. My main uses of it is sprinkled on any kind of green salad and mixed with granola, yogurt and fruit. A friend of mine sprinkles it on pasta instead of parm. I could eat it by itself by the spoonful. I love the slightly nutty flavour and chewy texture.

It's calorie dense but with all those amazing health benefits, it is worth it. In moderation of course! :)
