Apologies my bloggies for my unintended hiatus of the weekend in not posting. It was unplanned and I was a busy girl. So I suppose I have been taking a bit of a break from the play by play food blogging, but what I do have for you is the food that was making me so busy on the weekend!
I threw my buddy a Jacki a baby shower on Saturday, which ended up being a perfect day to be stuck inside for a baby shower because it was gloomy and rainy outside. I spent Friday night prepping the food. Eats consisted of a good balance between good and bad:
Table 1:
Tortilla rollups
These are one of my favourite “shower” treats which are multigrain tortilla wraps rolled and cut into pinwheels with a filling of: light cream cheese, light sour cream, minced green onions, minced red pepper, minced chipotle chilies (canned) & shredded marble cheese and salsa for dipping:
Egg Salad Sammies
on light rye. Eggs, mayo, chives, celery, S&P:
Broccoli salad a la Costco
which was absolutely amazing, the best broccoli salad I’ve ever had. Granted, not the most calorie friendly, but moderation and balance is the key, right?!
A “the-work-is-done-for-you fruit tray”
with dark chocolate fondue from Laura Secord (not yet warmed up here in the pic):
Table 2
Veggies!
Gotta gave them there as options! If you choose a veggie to dip into the yumminess I have coming up below, it certainly saves you calories and ups the nutritional value over always using bread and crackers, right?!
And bread and whole wheat baguette to dip into…
Artichoke dip (a la Costco)
served in a bread bowl, topped with cheese and warmed in the oven (dippers already in progress):
Crab Dip
homemade, served in a bread bowl topped with some light marble cheese and warmed in the oven:
Lemon-Cream cheese Crumble a la Costco
which was really just a “sooped up” lemon meringue pie, but totally delicious:
And our happy mother-t0-be:
I can’t believe her baby girl will be joining us only in a few short weeks!
Oh and who doesn’t have delicious punch at a shower?!
Oh and I just had to document my little maniac Lucy cuddling up to the adorable little Zack who joined his mom at our shower! Any of you who have had the pleasure of meeting my little hellian knows that she has “issues” when she is in crowds and when she meets new people (especially children), and here she is all BFF with Jack! I was soooo pleeeeeeeeeeeased!
Highschool friends! Our buddy Sarah came all the way from New Brunswick to help me put the show on the road and it was great to see her and for the three of us to celebrate the upcoming arrival of little Miss Baby Walker:
It was a fun day, filled with actual fun games and not the cheesy ones! Using “mommy-to-be” topics, we played Family Feud and cranium using a white board and we had a great time playing in teams. All in all it was great and I was happy that Jacks got some more loot for her little girl!
Later that night, we had a few friends come over and there was no time for blog time. Sunday I ended up helping hubby put together some pipe thing for his compressor (don’t ask!) lol and today, I’m home because I got a corticosteroid injection in my hip and I have to say, what I “thought” was the steroid injection on Friday was only freezing injections. Today was the real deal (and more freezing injections in other locations) and I am quite out of commission. My hip and leg feel numb and uncomfortable and so I’m just resting and icing today. Doc said Bootycamp is out for tomorrow for sure, so booooooooooo!
I’m also not pleased with the fact that, as the doc has told me today and has one of you on-the-ball readers have pointed out to me that there can be some associated weight gain with those injections. I believe it will only be water retention, so I will be steering clear of the scale for a while. No need to get myself unnecessarily disappointed with I know there is something else at play, right?
So bloggies, that’s a re-cap of my weekend and I’m happy to be back and blogging.
I also had a question posed to me by an anonymous commenter last week that I would like to answer in the form of a post because I think it is a very good question and could serve some of my readers well (and myself!) to hear the answer.
While I’m at it, if any of you have any Questions that you would like answered (as I sometimes tend to overlook answering them when they are asked in comments, sorry!), please feel free to email me and I will of course answer them ;-)

Beautiful spread for the shower ! And you are wise to skip the scale for right now. Just keep focusing on doing what is right and healthy for your body. The weight is only one component, and you will be more able to focus on it once you get past this hurdle!
Looks like you threw a great shower! I'm glad your pup found a friend :)
