Bootycamp Week 4 Check-In

image

Tonight was Bootycamp night and it was our week 4 “check in” to see how the progress we have made in the four weeks.  For some of the group, it’s the mid-point and for some it’s the last class.  The general consensus seemed to be from those I talked to that most people didn’t lose any weight, or they went up, but inches were lost.

My results surprised me a little bit.  (Even though I was “up” on the scale the other day which set me off more than usual, my weight went back down to where it was and my weight went up only 0.4 lbs.)  Firstly, I don’t usually react strongly to the number on the scale, never did.  The reason I did this time was still granted though because I was still feeling all of the things that I posted about.  The number on the scale was only a catalyst for me to feel fed up with it.

Secondly, I don’t put much stock in weighing myself at 5p.m., but in any event, after feeling the way I was feeling the other night, I’ll certainly take the +0.4

Then there’s the “you just gained muscle” crowd who begins reassuring everyone else who “gained” that it’s muscle.  Okay guys, while I do absolutely admire that you are not going to let that get you down, especially since you are seeing other great results in your fitness and your inches lost, I never did buy that line.  I’m sorry, I just never have.  To me it’s an excuse when you’re nutrition isn’t where it should be.

I actually forgot my book at home where I had my initial measurements so I didn’t get to compare until I got home.  I actually did lose inches!  Yay!!!!!!!!!!

Upper Arm (right) same
Upper Arm (left) -0.5
Chest same
Waist -1.0
Hips +1.0
Butt -1.0
Upper thigh (right) -0.5
Upper thigh (left) -0.5
Total -2.5 inches

I’m quite impressed!!  Heather said that she was going to focus more on food and meal plans during the next 4 weeks which I’m pretty pumped about.

I really enjoy this class.  I love that it’s outside most of all.  My fitness has improved noticeably and I can do a few consecutive “real” pushups now where I couldn’t even really do 1 the first night! lol

I am looking forward to more progress and getting the scale DOWN for the final check in at week 8!

I didn’t actually get home until 9:00 so I didn’t have enough time to get my pics up and posted after getting supper and watching BB, sorry guys!   Today was great though and I came in around 1400 calories and burned 450 at Bootycamp which to me is an awesome day :-)

Glad to hear that you had such a great day.

I didn't comment the other day but I see that many other people had. It's nice to get you get back up and dust yourself off.

Ups and downs are a part of life and its how to react to the downs that count!

Oh, you went tonight!! Does that mean your body is feeling better? I soooo missed going...I felt all guilty for laying on my couch, but my back is thanking me.

One reason for the gain you may not realize- the cortisone injections. In some people they cause a weight gain.

After my first 6 week session with Boot Camp, I lost maybe 3 pounds. BUT I lost a total of 4 inches and gained huge strength! I went from doing 18 push-ups the first night (and most were from the knees) to 53 at the end of 6 weeks!! Everything improved...my running time, holding plank, holding squat, etc. That's what I'm focusing on...that and I've totally caught the bug now and look forward to going to each class. Signed up for another 6 weeks, and when that's done, I'll sign up for another and another, etc.
Let's not get chained to that scale...we are all beautiful, regardless of our shape or size.

Oh shoot, I missed the measurements! I'm glad to hear that you were feeling well enough to go. I think now that you're seriously back on track and watching your cals these next 4 weeks the scale is going to go waaay down! It is pretty cool to see that you've actually lost inches though! Yah!!

I don't believe the "you've gained muscle" crap either...its just making another excuse for why you didn't lose weight.

Happy Friday Ang! :)

I'm glad you wrote that Angie, I don't believe in the 'gained muscle' thing either! :) Although it does sound like you're doing a great job of BUILDING those muscles! Congrats on the inches lost, and the push-ups! That's what I love about bootcamp -- I really do feel stronger, have more stamina, and even better posture I think! I'll take those kinds of benefits any day! :)

There was an episode of Biggest Loser where one of the contestants gained while she was home, and everyone said, "Oh, but you gained muscle, blah blah blah." Jillian Michaels said that was BS and to just admit that she gained weight. I loved her quote but haven't been able to find it. Anyone remember which epi it was?

I don't think not understanding how muscle growth work necessarily equals not having your nutrition in the right place.

I suck at real pushups. :P
