Have you ever been at Sears and you’re walking through the store and then you hear this announcement something like, “Attention shoppers for the next 5 minutes we are giving away a free gift on the second floor, so go and be the first 20 shoppers right now…” or something along those lines? Then you get there, and the girl gives you a coupon or something and then does a demonstration for knives? Yeah. Well one day like a year ago I was there in the store when they did that and the "free gift” ended up being this quirky looking plastic thing:
It doesn’t look like much but it’s the handiest thing in the kitchen for juicing citrus fruit I swear! I use it ALL the time! You just slice off the nubby end of the lemon like so, and “screw” that little thing right into it like this:
And then you can just squeeze to your little heart’s content and ALL of the juice comes out of that little spout and NO seeds fall out because they are caught in the little chamber in the core!
She showed like 10 other uses for the thing and I think it involved coring tomatoes and apples, but I can’t remember because all I could see was that my lemon squeezing dilemma days were over :-D
So I was making a bean dip/sandwich spread puree the other night and was impressed again at this little thing, so I figured I’d finally post about it. Thanks to Kath and her lemony hummus the other day I had to make something to cure the craving and I didn’t have any chick peas on hand, so cannellini beans, lemon juice, lemon zest, S&P it was!
On problem is that I was a little overly excited about how easy it was to get all the juice out of the lemon that I “over did it” on the juice and the bean puree ended up a little on the runny side, but it was lemony delicious! Maybe next time it’ll be chick peas and more zest and less juice? Either way the flavour was phenom and that’s what’ matters most!
I ended up buying the knives they were selling that day because I’m a sucker for kitchen stuff they were inexpensive and what they said was true, they never go dull and are good for cutting pretty much anything and I use them all the time and I own knives much more expensive that I hardly ever use because they never stay sharp.

Oh, my Rada knives. They sell them individually so I get one every other month or so. They never dull and they also have a knife sharpener that works wonders if you want it to work just like the day you bought it.
You must be reading the saem blogs as me..Jenna has me thinking of green monsters,Kath of lemony hummus ,and Tina always asks questions like this!
You have good taste, and I think those three should read your blog, you are always up to soemthing creative and different yourself as well!
Thanks for getting back into food posts-how do you find it re eating healthy-does it help or hinder? There's my question-hee hee!
Waste of money = garlic press. I hate that thing. I LOVE Oxo products, but this one let me down big time. Quicker to chop it with a knife!
Anonymous: Thank you so much that is so kind! Yes I do read Kath and Jenna's blogs (who doesn't?), but I never leave comments and I think I'm going to start. Angela (Oh She Glows) is the person behind the "Green Monster" craze by the way ;-)
Does it help or hinder? Angela (Oh She Glows) did a post yesterday about that and this was my comment:
"I did it for a couple of straight months and it actually put the “fun” back into my blog and made it feel “new” again because it was another way I was able to express some creativity with my passion for health and my journey in weight loss. It created a rock wall of accountability for me beyond just tracking, journalling and talking about it on my blog because it was right THERE to see! After a few months of it however, I had to stop because it was becoming exhausting and not as fun anymore. The moment I started feeling like it was a chore, it defeated the purpose.
I started doing it again just recently and I’m feeling that fun sense again and it’s keeping me on track which is the whole point of the blog to begin with. I know that the day will come again when it’s going to feel like a chore and then I’ll stop.
The way I see it is, if you have a blog you can choose to do whatever you want. If you decide to be a “food blogger” and take pictures of every little thing, post them and talk about them, then great! If you only want to take and post pictures when you think it’s “blog-worthy” and a contribution to your readers in some way, then that’s cool too. I love the freedom of blogging and the loyalty of the readers. Chances are if they are reading your blog and have for a while, they are doing so because of the person writing the content first and foremost. There’s a fine line with blogging - do what you want on your blog, or do what you think people want on your blog."
Basically, if you're doing it because it's fun, it HELPS. If it becomes a chore it didn't help. That said, it wasn't just the photo journalling that made it a chore to stop, it was the BLBE leading that took away the extra time I had on TOP of a full time job etc., so all of that together became to much. Now that I've had a break, it's fun again and it feels like a hobby :-) What makes it even MORE fun is your guys' interesting and supportive comments. When you know there are readers out there who truly enjoy it, it makes it that much worth while to do!
Thank you Anonymous! :)
this cheese grater - you put the cheese it and then turn the crank. its SO MUCH BETTER than any regular lame grater.

I LOOOVE my magic bullet.
Its crappy for everything else but smoothies, but it works like a gem for smoothies.
I love my kitchen aid mixer (but that is more of an appliance than a gadget....).
Most gadgets I find rather useless, but your lemon thingy looks awesome!
i absolutely LOVE my pampered chef chopper. i use it to make fresh salsa all the time!
I want that gadget!
I love my garlic press and panini press!
I never actually knew what that was!!
