I'm a punch pass kind of girl these days methinks. I like the freedom of not being a "member" of any particular gym or facility and having the freedom to change it up and go here or there etc. Routine is key, but so is variety and freedom. I have a punch pass at Breathing Spaces Yoga Studio where I love weekend yoga sessions (which I haven't been to in a few weeks and MUST go this Sunday - hint hint ladies) and I was a member of the DalPlex, but that membership has lapsed and I think rather than committing to an expensive monthly membership at Nubody's, I'm going to get a punch pass of 10 visits to go and do whatever whenever. I have an elliptical at home, a bicycle, DVD's and two feet which I want to be my main form of cardio for the summer, so getting out there to yoga and to the gym for fun classes and some strength training is my plan. Why spend $50-$60 a month for a committed amount of time when I can go 10 times for $70 which would never likely be more than once per week anyway when it's mixed up with everything else, right? Right!
So that's my summer plan! And I better get boogie-ing because I'm getting antsy. This stomach bug hasn't gone away yet and I NEEED to get running!
P.S. You were so sweet to think of me, but fortunately I have not been affected by the fires going on here in the Halifax are that has affected many many people. It is a scarry situation for many. Thank you for your kind concern my anonymous commenter ;-)

I read just yesterday (but I forget where...probably canada.com) that it turns out to be cheaper in the long run to pay as you go. This is because most people don't use the gym as much as they think they're going to.
I agree, I am getting FAR better (and more fun!) workouts at home, with friends and at random classes...it is SO much cheaper than my gym membership that I let lapse this past month...no point in paying through the nose for something that isn't really worth it (well at least my gym isn't - the equipment is always down and I end up more frustrated than anything!!!)
Ya, you're telling me! I had a gym pass that I was paying into every month and not using as much as I thought. I far prefer excercising either outdoors or in the privacy of my home! Why on earth I decided to commit to $60 a month is beyond me!
starting in September I want to got to yoga with you ladies too!
Punch pass seems like the best thing to do!
funny enough, I'm sort of the opposite. for the first time in my life I totally get my money's worth out of my gym membership. Honestly though, I think it's because I have such a flexible schedule. With working at home and FH being away so often, I can go pretty much whenever I want. If I had to go only early mornings or right after work on a regimented schedule I probably wouldn't do it.
Yaaaieeee for yoga. I'm sooooo in!!!
Variety is the spice of life! ;) Getting locked into annual contracts can be very costly, especially if you don't use the facility often.
I think that it's a really smart idea to do the punch pass thing. I myself will be doing something like that throughout the year, and when I go to school in august i'll buy 24 sessions for 60 dollars that I can use at my leisure throughout the year. Much more fun to add variety!
I used to do the punch card at Moksha Yoga but it's pretty pricey that way there, so I am considering getting a 1 month membership and try to go at least 5 days a week...just to try for a month and see how it affects my mood,my health,my energy!
What do you think...I know you tried Moksha once...did you ever think of doing their one weel for $20 and going almost every day?
bet you would feel so amazing swaeting away any stress or toxins!!
Angie, I just tried a new almond butter at Superstore in Halifax-so good! It's the President's Choice Organic CRUNCHY almond butter-which is available in the regular nonorganice peanut better area. It's amazing with oatmeal!Love to hear how you like it compared to your Maranatha....
I tried stirring then leaving upside down in fridge-worked perfectly, wish I had done this before in the past. Thanks for the cool tip!!!
I think you should just keep doing what you're doing because obviously it's working!!
I've been paying for my membership which isn't getting a whole lot of use right now....meh.....need to get motivated to get to the gym!!
I'm glad you're ok. I haven't ready anything about those fires yet?!
I love the idea of paying as you go, I'm super lucky in that I have a free gym at work and they also pay for my near home gym membership, I know, super spoiled, but if it weren't for that, I would without a doubt go that same punch pass route as you! I'm happy to hear your not near the fire area, whew!
