I am still shocked at the fact that with all of our knowledge and research that we now know today which proves, through research and otherwise, that the only constant to acheive healthy and permanent weight loss isn't through anything magical in a bottle. A healthy balanced diet with exercise creating a healthy calorie deficit is IT! I don't get it. People are still willing to put themselves at risk by popping pills that promise them results. And the ironic part about most of these kinds of products is that they will usually qualify it by saying "to be taken with a combination of reduced calorie diet and regular exercise" or something like that, don't they??!
This morning I read this article on The Weekly Bite about Hydroxycut, "FDA Recalls Popular Diet Pill - Why are we still taking these pills!?!"
(Posted using ShareThis)
Does this scare you? Anger you? Remind you of how you have to be your own health researcher and advocate? Don't trust these companies who promise you results with a pill! WHY risk it???

Actually, when I heard about the FDA ban on Hydroxycut, the first thing I thought about was the BLBE contest. Our whole little community here is reinforcing the need to exercise, and eat real, unprocessed foods. I haven't heard any of our bloggers talk about diet pills or fad diets.
We don't need no stinkin' Hydroxycut!
chezjulie: tell it sister! Wooot! :-D
I definitely agree with you and I think there is NO need for nasty diet pills. Clearly they don't work, and just make your system whack.
But, I can see why people take them. After losing about 100 lbs, the calories in/calories out formula just isn't working for me and it's driving me bonkers! It seems so simple, and yet... nothing.
I guess I shouldn't say I can see why people take them, because I try and limit the pills I take and would never ever take a diet pill, but I guess I mean I understand that point of desperation. Maybe it's just not working for them, and they think a pill will fix everything.
But I would HOPE they would try everything else first, because if you can't lose weight with healthy eating and exercise, a doctor's visit might help, not some caffeine pill! Thanks for posting this; sadly some people do think it's the "magic answer", but you're living proof it can be done the old fashioned way- you rock!
Yeah, pills. . . what? It's amazing to me how many people want to know what I'm doing and when I tell them diet and exercise - they get the glazed over look or else they say, "yeah, that doesn't work for me." Well, it didn't work for me either - because I NEVER REALLY DID IT!! Are you kidding me? I'm so tired of people wanting my magic remedy and being all disappointed when I tell them I've actually worked and done it the old fashioned way. In this day and age, people just want the quick fix. Maybe I'll start telling people I have a magic tree that grows a magic pill - and there's PLENTY TO GO AROUND!
Luckily I was scared off of diet pills when I was younger - I was in grade 6 taking my mom's "diet pills" (don't blame my mom, I think she thought they were harmless) and I ended up having an allergic reaction to ephenidrine (I am sure I butchered the spelling there)...anyway, I crashed after being hyper for a few hours and had a terrible heat rash that I had to take steroids for for 2 months (IN THE SUMMER!!!) I had to take cold showers and keep my body covered - that ALONE (besides all the wonderful knowledge I have about how much crap those things are) are why I would NEVER take those pills!!!
It's really sad that so many people believe that they'll find a miracle in a pill. Weight loss is pretty straight forward. You just have to do the opposite of what caused you to gain, LOL.
I never have taken a diet pill, nor will I ever stick that kind of poison in my body. I still don't see how people can get over the "evil-ness"
Hey Angie,
Diet pills are big bucks! My experience is that most people know deep down that it's not what they need, but they've suffered so long they'd rather believe in the quick fix then take the time required to learn new, healthy habits.
Plus, it doesn't help that the people who market these products are EXPERTS at tapping into our pain (and getting us to whip out our credit cards).
You can get a ton of free info at my site http://www.personaltrainerstoronto.com . No gimmicks, just sound fitness and nutrition advice.
Good luck!

I just don't understand it, even at my heaviest, most miserable I knew that anything from a bottle wasn't going to help. I have a tendency to be very logical in thinking and when others go all un-vulcan like and believe that kind of shit it drives me mental, I find the whole thing so frustrating.
If you have fallen in the grip of overweight and obesity and are eager to trigger off weight loss, you should opt for dieting and physical exercises in the first place. However, when dieting and physical exercises fail to yield results, get hold of diet pills such as Phentermine, Adipex etc but only after getting a doctor’s prescription for the same.
