Ok Mini, Don't Get Your Shorts in a Knot! -->

I hit the streets during my lunch hour today and ran a 5k and acheived a personal best! Lance told me so himself on my Nike+ iPod! Woot! I didn't mess around with a walk warm up like I usually do and I just went for it. I guess I don't need as much of a warm up as I thought. The first 10 minutes getting warmed up and finding my stride was just as effective as walking.

My time was 31 and some change and there were hills involved (it is Halifax afterall) so my heart rate was pretty high the entire time and I burned a bazillion calories doing it! I finished it off with a nice walk burning another 300 calories on top of the 1050 from the run. I'll update my stats tonight when I get home since I can't stand the look of her pouty little face playing video games ----->

It occurred to me last night that there are many reasons by the time I get home from work that stand in the way from me getting in my exercise, whether it's fatigue or whatever. I find my most motivational and productive time of the day is between 9:30 - 2:00 so why not use my lunch hour to get a good exercise session in?! Seriously! I mean it's now actually Spring outside and getting out there during the peek time of the beautiful day is a perfect solution! A change of clothes is all that's needed and that's that.

Yay me!

Umm...How the heck do you burn over 1000 calories in 30 minutes? Doesn't that seem a little high to you? And 300 calories of walking is a lot too, I'm thinking at least an hour? I could be wrong, just seems off.

Randi: yeah it struck me as odd too, but I don't really know what to say about it. I wore the HRM and it seemed to be working. I worked pretty hard (on hills) the entire time, so I'm thinking that has something to do with it.

It could be off, but I have no way of knowing. I'll just have to guage it from the next time to see if the next one sounds odd too. HRM are supposed to be the most accurate way to measure, so what do ya do??!

That is a great way to use time!!! I wish I had a longer lunch time so that I could even go for a walk during it!! But alas, I only get 30 minutes, and taht isn't really enough time to do anything PLUS eat lunch!

Something has to be off with your HR monitor. I weigh 130 pounds and burn roughly 100 calories/mile - depending on my speed of course. My polar and Garmin are both about the same. A treadmill shows higher - machines are not accurate. There are sites where you can get estimates for calories burnt. I know www.sparkpeople.com does it. I'm sure if you google it you will find sites.
Great job on the PR though. You are doing great!

I'm a huge believer in lunch time workouts, love them and I don't feel like I'm taking any time away from hubby in the evenings
