Sweaty Sweaterson

Today was the day folks, the day that I finally got to try Moksha Hot Yoga.  Our plans to attend had been cancelled for one reason or another for a while and this time I made it! As you know, I have tried hot yoga only once and it was at Breathing Spaces.  I had a good idea that Breathing Spaces was more like “warm” yoga rather than hot because I did not come out of the class sopping wet!  Today, a completely different story! (more details below)

I didn’t want to have anything too substantial on the tummy too close to class and I woke up a tad bit late, so I had 1/2c All Bran….:

Topped with some of these most delicious plump and perfectly ripe and dry raspberries (which by the way are on sale at Pete’s Frootique!):

and with 1/2c skim milk and 1/2c unsweetened vanilla almond breeze:

And by the way, I have to say, by “cutting” the milk with the almond breeze, I saved about 35 cals or so and I couldn’t tell one bit of a difference whatsoever!  Next time I might try 1/4 milk to 3/4 almond breeze.  It was totally delicious with those perfect berries.  What a TREAT!

And of course my cup-a-joe:

So after that I tried to drink as much water as possible to get hydrated for hot yoga, although I only got in about 10 oz I think.  Farmgirl and I went to the 60 min class at noon rather than one of the 90 min classes since it was our first time and didn’t want to be in over our heads with the heat.

All I can say about the Moksha hot yoga is that I have never in my life sweat more than during that hour.  I had pours dripping from my shins and forearms!  And feet!  My entire body was sopping wet in the end and no matter how many times I tried to dry myself with my towel, it made no difference at all.  That is a GOOD thing though!  The class was hard.  There were times when my thighs were shaking pretty badly holding the leg strengthening postures as long as I could.

The class was packed. There was not an empty space in the room.   She came to correct my postures at least 3 or 4 times which is good because I want to be making sure that I’m improving if I’m doing them wrong, which I inevitably am since I’m just learning!  Although I’m not sure how often anyone else in the room needed the corrections!  Whoever thinks that yoga (especially hot yoga) isn’t a full body strength workout has never done it.  Period.  I feel it and I feel it big time.

Thankfully I brought a complete change of clothes with me (including underwear!) because after the class I was completely soaked all the way through.  Maybe too much information, but I’m sure many of you are wondering that kind of stuff, so I’ll tell yas!

All in all I enjoyed the class very much!  It was hard and it has to be hard to improve and advance yourself and your fitness.  The only drawback is that it’s really expensive and it’s not something I can really afford to be doing at Moksha on a regular basis.  Today as a “drop in” was $16.  You can get unlimited for a week for $20 I think, but I wouldn’t able to make it downtown during the week for the times they have class.  Instead I think we’ve decided to buy a 10 class card at Breathing Spaces where you can go to any 10 classes at either location whenever you want and it won’t expire (or at least not for 3 months or something).  And that way we can try some other yoga classes and pilates etc.  I am also doing the beginner-intermediate-beginner class in my community so I think that’s enough on the pocket book for now.  Maybe when this class is over.  I am sooo thankful to be doing the other yoga class though because with it, I would have done nearly as well today!

So I will keep Moksha on my once a month plan or a “treat” class to go once in a while for now.  Really the only reason is financially because otherwise I feel great for having gone and I know that I won’t really be the same at Breathing Spaces.

So there you have it, I went to Moksha finally!  My anonymous commenter was interested in hearing how it went and there you  have it :-)

Immediately after, Farm Girl and I did a little shop shoppy shop at Lulu (where I finally got my yoga pants I’ve been putting off and it’s too cold to be wearing my crops to class now and I got a new tank too :-D), then we grabbed a latte at Starbucks (mine was a grande skinny caramel) and hit the streets to go to Pete’s Frootique for a quick browse-a-roo:

I was pretty starving at this point too and it was past Lunch time, so I had my emergency glove compartment Larabar :-D:

When I got home, I had some of Pete’s garlic salsa with some Guiltless Gourmet lime tortilla chips to hold me over until supper (Oh btw, I had a comment from you saying that you didn’t think you could get Guiltless Gourmet wraps in Canada.  I bought mine at Planet Organic, but I’ve seen them at Shopper’s Drug Mart and Pete’s Frootique here in Halifax.  They may even be in the health food section of the regular grocery stores too):

Supper was a real treat too.  I bought a “chicken supreme” at Pete’s Frootique while I was there and I baked that in the oven and had it with some steamed broccoli, cauliflower and a sauté of onions, leeks, mushrooms, swiss chard, bok choy, spinach, EVOO, garlic, S&P and red pepper flakes:

I actually meant to get another kind of chicken, but I said the wrong one by mistake! lol  This was soooo gooood though.  It was stuffed, but I don’t exactly know with what :-D.  I only ate half and this is what was left over and I’ll eat it tomorrow for leftovers:

And since I didn’t eat it all (yay me!) I had a “dessert” of some of that full fat Fox Hill vanilla yogurt with fresh raspberries and a sprinkle of graham cracker crumbs:

And that’s it for the day!  I am going to fix myself a nice cup of herbal tea of sorts, get the laundry folded and put away, get the BLBE results posted and get started on hubby’s accounting!

Have a great night everyone and happy Monday to come!

Glad to hear you like your hot yoga. I am dying to try regular yoga but must wait to get a little more skinny before diving into that.

I must confess I don't know why I don't live in Halifax. I love it so much. Everytime I visit(which is often in the summer) I always stop at Pete's. I am jealous you have a planet organic and a pete's. LOL

You can find GG stuff at Metro grocery stores (in TO).

I'm so glad you liked the yoga! Fingers crossed, but I'm going to yoga for the first time tomorrow night (if work allows).

Great losses on the BLBE Angie - you team too, but I'm talking about you in particular. Great job!

I'm glad to hear that you got to experience the love of Moksha Hot Yoga! I love it as well but like you can't really afford paying the drop in rate.
I just wanted to let you know that your Moksha Yoga center does offer a $5 donation Karma Class on Friday nights @ 8:30pm. The donations go towards local charities.
This is how I'm able to take advantage of Moksha Hot Yoga at an affordable rate and for a great cause!

I love that along this journey we start to lose our "food fear"...I used to not order certain things because I was afraid of what might be in it...now I jump in head first, if something looks or sounds good, I try it!!! You chicken looked yummy!!!

I really want to try Hot Yoga!!!!

I've taken Bikram yoga in the past, and I understand that Moksha is even hotter. I kind of enjoyed it, except some of the instructors would really crank up the heat to the point that it was almost unbearable.

I finally quit going because I spent most of the time lying on the ground in dead pose (it was either that or throw up or faint). I'm thinking of just finding a place to take "normal" yoga, because I really need the stretching.

Hot yoga is definitely not a workout for wimps! If you can handle it, good for you! :)

Go A-Team!
